Job Description: Power Systems Engineer
Position Overview:
The Power Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical power systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and enhance power systems. The Power Systems Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient and sustainable solutions that meet industry standards and comply with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design electrical power systems, including the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy.
2. Develop engineering plans, specifications, and drawings for power system projects.
3. Conduct system studies, fault analysis, and load flow analysis to assess power system performance and identify areas for improvement.
4. Perform comprehensive analysis of power system stability, protection coordination, and fault response.
5. Evaluate and select appropriate equipment, components, and materials for power system installations.
6. Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure adherence to project timelines and deliverables.
7. Participate in the evaluation and integration of emerging technologies related to power systems.
8. Develop and maintain documentation, including technical reports, project plans, and engineering guidelines.
9. Provide technical support and guidance to field engineers during power system installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
10. Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to power system design and operation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience in power systems engineering, preferably in the electrical utility or energy sector.
3. Strong knowledge of power system analysis, modeling, and simulation techniques.
4. Proficiency in using power system analysis software and tools (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, DigSILENT, MATLAB) for load flow, short-circuit, and transient stability studies.
5. In-depth understanding of electrical power system components, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
6. Familiarity with power system protection schemes, fault analysis, and coordination studies.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues.
8. Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
9. Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
10. Knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NERC).
